✓ Bucket list
25 years ago my parents came back from an amazing ski experience in Colorado, USA. The one thing I always remember from their stories is the way they talked about the type of snow. They where so super enthusiastic about it, I will never forget. Since that moment I am always longing to get this experience too. Skiing in Colorado has become a dream for me, 25 years ago!
So, I put it on my bucket list. It was waiting there for all those years, in silence and patiently. I didn’t feel sad about not ticking that specific box on my bucket list at all. It was there, for all those years. Sometimes, when my parents where talking about it every now and then, I highlighted this specific wish, but most of the time it was patiently waiting for its moment.
Although I knew the change to tic this box was very small, I did put it on my bucket list. Four years ago we’re asked to live in the US for a while, which woke up my Colorado dream again, but it was still far from reality.
I know this sounds ridiculous; not spending the Christmas holidays at with our family…. Traveling back ‘home’ implies you have to deal with jet lags, long flights and in the end fewer holidays together as a family, just the four of us…. So last year we decided not to fly back home at Christmas and we made plans to go to Colorado for skiing.
A ‘(once in a) lifetime experience’ became reality. In the weeks before departure I was getting more and more nervous every day. Talking out loud about this adventure made me a sort of nervous too. 25 years I dreamed about this moment…. And then at a sudden the dream was close coming true?? It was hard to believe. Was this dream worth waiting for, or not?
AND IT WAS! I can tell you, it was absolutely worth waiting for! I loved the snow experience; it was exactly what my parents where talking about. It felt exactly the way I was dreaming about the snow. The snow feels like powder, the slopes are not crowded and they are not always groomed. We had trees around us even at that height. I totally loved it. There were moments that I wished our children weren’t there, so I could pass on this desire to go skiing there themselves once they grew up – so they could put it on their bucket list. But giving them this experience will lead them to their own dreams they will create for themselves, for their future.
And you know what: it’s worth waiting for the moment things -big or small- of your bucket list will come true! And it doesn’t feel empty or scary, now I completed this one. It has given room for a new things in life! So put things on your bucket list and go for it!
