Most likely you will be traveling or hosting families during the holiday.  Having a plan ahead will help things go more smoothly. That way you will be more relaxed in the actual holiday.

slot Having a plan is he key!

Are you hosting?

  • Prepare the guestroom at least two weeks ahead.
  • On the day of arrival add a bottle of water and a flower in the room of your guests.
  • Ask your guests what they want to do while you’re the host.
  • Think about the personal space you need for yourself while hosting guests and communicate this with them.
  • Ask your children what they need while having guests.
  • Think ahead of what dinner you want to serve at the day of arrival, make it easy for yourself and don’t forget the guests will be tired of travelling.Kerstbomen
  • Stand out with your dinner at the second or third day of the stay; the impact will be bigger. But use familiar recipes!
  • Start decorating your home and garden now, so you can enjoy it yourself too.
  • Make your home feel festive and warm, your visitors will feel welcome and will be better guest when they feel spoiled.
  • Be aware of an open communication – ask and tell what you both need.
  • Tell your visitors that they have to do the highlights by themselves, together you go to a place that is new to you too, that way you explore more about the place you live. It will be temporary anyway to take your time to find new places to go. You can give your top tips to explore by them selves. That gives you more time to be together with your family, you all need that.
  • Use familiar recipes, which save you time and you will have success!

You have to do it all?

I know this sounds ridiculous to someone who never lived as an Expat before, but it is the reality of many expats!

  • Don’t forget to breath in and out!
  • At some point you really liked the idea of having friends over, travel and visiting families all in one holiday. Forgive yourself for doing this. Just enjoy it and don’t be harsh on yourself when you feel tired. That is human. You asked yourself and your family to be super-human, which cost a lot of energy. Just have fun and think about it twice the next time…

Happy holidays to you all!
