Get that elephant!
Plan your life ahead (for in the new country) not only the actual move from A to B
Setting goals is necessary to get what you want, at least that is what ‘they say’ in books. We hardly do this. We do plan the move from A to B but we forget to think about what life should be for us while living in the new place. We do plan every step to get from country A to country B. We know exactly what (& when) to do to have a well-planned and smooth transition.
What we don’t think about before we move is what our lives should look like once we live in the new place. First the house, the school, the doctors etc. It is hard, I admit. You don’t know so many important things you have to know, things you only know once you touch ground. Things you need to know before you can chase your personal goals. But it is good to think about it ahead. You know who you are, you know your personality, you know the way you react on people, on change. You know what makes you happy. Thinking about you yourself ahead makes life easier, much easier.
Setting goals gives meaning to our lives but also it gives us direction to the way we act.
Having a goal in life gives us direction. Everything is there -all the time- except if you don’t know what you are looking for. I never noticed that one red tree in our street before but after I moved back from the US (well known from the Indian summers) I saw this tiny red tree in the fall. I never saw it before! We experience the same for specific brands or pregnant women: you don’t see it or them if you have nothing to do with it… If you don’t know what you are looking for, you will not find it.
As a child I was surprised about what my (older) friend got for presents. She always got presents from all directions. She got presents all year long, from her neighbors, friends and family. Not big and expensive gifts but small things like cards and charms. I was amazed, every time she got something. I didn’t feel sad or neglected; instead I was one of them: giving small gifts to her. I was always thinking about her when I was shopping or on vacation. I know why! She was fond of elephants! She was really fond of them. Everybody knew she was crazy about elephants. She wanted all elephants on the world. And people helped her to get her goal. It was easy. Every time her friends saw a picture of an elephant, they thought about her. Nothing surprising, it is how our brain functions.
It is the same for your job search! If you are searching for a job, be specific. As specific as possible. If people know what you want, they think about you when they bump into your dream job. They will not think about you if you don’t tell them… think about this. If my friend would have told me that she loves big animals instead of elephants…. her story would be completely different! You will only get the life you want, if you speak out loud what you want. So, it is the same for your life! That is how it works! So come up with a plan and go for it! Think about the elephant!
We also have to remember that the goal itself has no guarantee that you will get it. You also need a plan of action. Having this plan of action gives us focus. Having focus gives us direction. Having direction will help us getting closer to our plans and dreams. Some of us know exactly what they want, others don’t know (yet) at all. Let me help you search for it and together we create your plan of action.
