Saying YES and the balance between helping others and using your talent!
Saying YES to one thing and saying NO to another… finding balance between helping others and using your talent! Saying YES to one thing is saying NO to another at the same time. We all know that, we all forget that every now and then too!
You haven’t heard from me for a while. I was working behind the scenes on a new program for DESIGN YOUR OWN FUTURE. I said ‘YES’ to the Parent Committee at the ISE. I said ‘YES’ to my individual coaching clients. I said NO to assist trainer Amber at synchronized swimming, just because my daughter had to quit due to her ears. My grandmother turned 95 years old and, of course, we celebrated big. Our son is a teenager now. Last, but just as important, I had my own personal coaching sessions. Life-long learning is one of my mottos. I don’t want to be that painter who has his house flaked off, although this is a huge trend at the moment, at least in the Netherlands. This month was over before I knew it.
Saying yes is so easy; it’s only a three-letter word. Sometimes you say yes before you even know it, without thinking about the consequences. Why is it harder to use the two-letter word -NO- instead? Read more.
Last time I said yes turned out to be a very big commitment and I am happy and proud that I did so. Saying yes to people, friends, potential friends, situations, and family is one of my talents…. and I know why.
I like to give, as I hope we all do. A more important reason is that I can see a person’s talent easily. That is my talent and I see this as a gift.
I also want to bring out the best in people. The problem is that I see so much talent around me. Sometimes it is hidden talent. Sometimes it is obvious to everybody, but not to the gifted one. Read more about talent here.
I love to activate a person’s talent. I cannot stop myself if I see talent that is being wasted. When I see potential in people or situations then I will give my full energy to it. This is where I sometimes lose track of the balance between my paid and unpaid jobs. I try to be all things to all people. There is sometimes a challenge to draw the line between the voluntary (unpaid) things I do and what would be considered ‘my work’ (paid). Finding the balance between the two is the key. It takes talent to do that, too.
The question for me now is: Do I fully use my own talent? The fact that I know what my talent is is no guarantee that I use it in the best way that I can. So I have to find a new balance amid all the fantastic work opportunities and social activities on my plate now! A good balance will enable me to be there for YOU, too! Are you also struggling with how to spend your energy? Just let me know.
I will give away 5 thirty-minute phone sessions. Make sure you are one of them and let me know right away by clicking here. You are one step away from a half hour call with me. Just do it.
