WRITE ABOUT YOUR OWN LIFE

Geschreven door Heidi Los

As an Expat Partner, your life is kind of everything: bold, challenging, exciting, full of learning, exploring, diversity, being lonely, being missed, missing home, travelling, juggling multiple languages, new diverse friendships and being different. For an Expat Partner this list is endless. No wonder why so many Expats write about their lives abroad. No wonder why there are so many Expat blogs. No wonder.

But why should you?

YOUR LIFE ON PAPER-2

If you are not able to continue doing your work due to whatever reason, you have to (or at some point will) figure out what else you can do in life; what your life will be about in the NOW and near future. Writing about your life can help you in your search for what to do or not do next.  Of course, you can also draw your life, or you can make a timeline (This is a much shorter way to get an overview.). Anyway, you will get a better understanding about your life by doing this.

Writing about your past is a great way to get an overview of YOU and the things that you have done in your life; an overview of things that have happened in your life.

You can also write about your life in the NOW, of course. For you as an Expat, this is a great way to leave a memoir for your children (and future generations). You create a journal, which will be a written record of all of your adventures and the memories that go with them. Writing about your own life is a very personal experience just like your life abroad is.

But how do you write about your life? What do you write about?

It can be very helpful to write about these tree topics:

Your PRIVATE life

Your WORK life

Your EDUCATION

To tell your story you can write about :

  • the people who had an impact on you
  • the special moments, special situations
  • the places you have lived

Give it a try! I bet it will be a very interesting story to tell! Have fun!
