Getting ready for your new job while living abroad?
Let’s work on your Profile, CV, Networking skills, Strategy and your Interviewing skills, in 5 steps
My name is Heidi and I have lived and worked abroad as a coach for Expat Partners. I used to work as a HR professional and I love it when people live their strengths especially when they feel like living a meaningful life.
While living abroad I always felt the urge of having something meaningful to do in my life. I was always busy creating something which I liked doing, using my skills and a good balance between taking care of the family and the work I did.
My life was very dynamic and I felt totally alive, each time I lived outside the Netherlands.
Don’t think I got that feeling overnight. Not at all, it took me at least a year to find out what I needed and wanted in the new situation. I didn’t do it all by myself too. I was walking around with this undefined feeling for a long period and at that moment I bumped into my coach. I wanted to be able to answer the little voice inside me saying: what is in it for you my dear? What about your career? The thing I struggled most with was that other voice screaming voices: hé, we need you now! You cannot go out there to find a job. You are needed here! Stay home and take care of the household and the family! We need you!
The struggle I felt was big because I realised I couldn’t and didn’t want to work full time. That was ‘impossible’ with the lives we lived the way we did. Of course we could hire a full time nanny but that didn’t feel good either. My husband was traveling a lot. I had two small children but yet I tried to find something in the end. So it was easy not to listen but that little voice inside me was pretty persistent.
Getting back in a normal daily routine takes a while. I found out that there are three phases:
Phase 1: focus on the move
You are busy arranging the move, getting things done are high on the list of priorities, just to make sure everything and everybody gets in place. You find out about a lot of things like food, doctors, schools, living in another culture etc.
Phase 2: the new normal
You know your way around in the new country, you’ve made friends and buying errands is not costing you a day anymore. Your children have made new friends and so did you. You have moments of ‘what shall I do next’ and you also questioning yourself about your daily activities.
Phase 3: the next step
In this phase you are getting more and more signals in life about your wish to do something meaningful in life. Some will find a job or hobby right away; most have to work on it. I mean work a lot on it!
Most Expat Partner experience a lot of PEAK moments in life. If you live abroad you know what I mean. Besides all the great stuff you are exposed to some Expat Partners experience a sort of loss in life:
- They miss the routine of the day.
- They miss the feeling of being something else than a partner or/and a parent.
- They miss the office gossip.
- They miss their colleagues.
- They miss using their brain.
- They miss using their skills.
Do you miss something of the above?
If you are an Expat Partner and you really want a job in the new country, this could be something for you. I can offer you support, depending on your need you can choose from this packet.

The 5 STEPS PROGRAMM
Finding a job -in your former profession or in a completely new field- is not always easy. Biggest issue most of the time is the language, the not knowing the work culture, not having a proper network to get an introduction at the company you like to work for. As an Expat Partner is looking for a job you are facing a lot of new -but to overcome- challenges.
The way to finding the new job is sometimes a long, long road. Some give up after a few attempts. Some strive for the maximum, some are open for everything, others step into the first given opportunity.
Are you looking for a job? Are you ready for the next step in your Expat life? If you are looking for help, keep on reading because there is more!
In the 5 steps I NEED A JOB – program I guide you through all phases of the search. I can’t guarantee a job but I do promise to help you the best I can, in the first place by working on your CV and skills.
If you think you only need parts of the steps, no problem, just let me know what you need and from there we move on together.
This is what the 5 steps look like:
You can follow the whole program 5 steps program but also choose for separate steps/topics, although all steps are very important!
Your profile has to be put to paper very clear and firm, it takes time to find the right words. The more specific you are in your job search the sooner you will be able to find your next job!
Each step in the program has:
- One individual meeting (by phone) 1 hour each
- I send you supporting documents on each topic
- You get feedback via email on the documents you send back to me.
Finding a job is not easy and it can be a long process on which I only give you support. I will do my best to support you on this journey and I will use my network as well but you are the one to find a job.
What would it look like if you have the job you are looking for? Feels good to only think about the idea. Do you dream about a new career? What is it worth to you to get this support? And how will you feel if you get the job you are longing for?
For each single step I charge € 297,00 (VAT included).
For all 5 steps you normally pay € 1.395,00 (VAT Included) but if you take them all at once you only pay € 1.097,00 . If you opt in for all 5 steps you get one of the additional modules (see below) for free. So that’s a nice bonus!
